Acclaimed French musicians, accordionist Vincent Peirani and saxophonist Emile Parisien perform music from their respective new albums Jokers and Louise in a special combined showcase. They are joined by trumpeter Avishai Cohen and his quartet, and Nicole Glover.

EMILE PARISIEN ‘LOUISE’

Born in Cahors in 1982, saxophonist Emile Parisien has been called by Le Monde newspaper “the best new thing that has happened in European jazz for a long time.” He attended the Marciac jazz school, where he studied under established musicians such Pierre Boussaguet, Guy Laffitte and Tonton Salut. His seventh album, Louise, “in which ferocious energy contrasts and co-exists happily with a much softer side,” features Theo Croker, Roberto Negro, Manu Codjia, Joe Martin, Nasheet Waits.

VINCENT PEIRANI ‘JOKERS’

The Boston Globe recently wrote about Vincent Peirani that he seems to be a culminating figure of sorts - able to move through various styles with an accomplished grace. Jokers, his first trio album, featuring Federico Casagrande on guitar and Ziv Ravitz on drums and keyboards, showcases their interest in rock and electronic music, and taste for musical hybridity.

AVISHAI COHEN QUARTET

“Avishai Cohen has rather quietly become one of the most creative trumpet players in jazz.” (JazzTimes). Found and shaped in the course of a remarkable recording session in the South of France, his new album Naked Truth takes the form of an extemporaneous suite. For most of its length the Israeli trumpeter painstakingly leads the way, closely shadowed by his long-time comrades — pianist Yonathan Avishai, bassist Barak Mori and drummer Ziv Ravitz — who share an intuitive understanding, hyper alert to the music’s subtly-changing emphases.
